The effect of appropriate antibiotic use on the length of hospital stay in deep neck abscess (DNA) patients

Deep neck abscess (DNA) is an emergency in the otorhinolaryngology head and surgery field due to formation of abscesses potential space between deep fasciae. It typically caused by expansion infection from various sources, including teeth, mouth, throat, paranasal sinuses, middle ear, neck. The increase DNA cases needs for improvement patient management especially when patients have comorbidities which lead extended length treatment. study aimed evaluate appropriateness empirical antibiotics given according culture results any comorbid factors that affect hospital stay (LOHS). was case-control observational involving 44 who treated at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital Yogyakarta period January 2018 December 2020. were divided into two groups with 22 each group. first group > 7 d LOHS second one those ≤ d. No significantly relationship observed variables evaluated included appropriate antibiotic use (p=0.546). However, dental caries (DC) related (p=0.015). In conclusion, there no LOHS. DC risk factor influence DNA.
